Easter... I WANT MY EGGS!!!!!!

We know that Easter is coming up... so how do we become an Easter egg?    You don't have to buy a bunch of food dye and see what color shows up on your skin best!!! ( Trust me, that would not be worth the time, cash, and money. ) Fill yourself up with candy, like an Easter egg!!

Here are some yummy candies to stuff in the Easter eggs. Goodies are well-  good, too, but this blog is on the edibles!!!!!!! Hand eggs out on Easter to all of your friends and family, or use 'em for the local egg hunt! They also work in mini Easter baskets for an Easter party!

                                      Jelly Bellies
                                       Godiva broken up in pieces
                                      Gushers
Mini Krabby Patties ( I love Spongebob!!!!!)
                                       Raffaellos
Gummies ( do 1 per egg so you fill more eggs. Nobody will notice! )
A coupon for a chocolate bunny. ( Don't be silly! You can't fit one of those
                                       in that cramped little egg!)

Summer Yum

I'm 9. I don't alway blog when I should. I ate my way through the summer. I visited a bunch of my favorite places and some new ones too. I spent a lot of time at my grandparents beach condo and so I ate in Indian Shores and the surrounding beaches a lot.

One of my favorite places to eat near their condo is TJ's Italian Cafe. It is really great. I could drink the marinara sauce straight. But it's better on their fried ravioli special. Stuffed with cheese you can't go wrong here. My mom and I split an order of Pasta with Clam Sauce. I loved it. The pasta was fresh with a light white clam sauce. I really liked that they used rosemary in their clam sauce. Very nice.  I also had a Caesar salad. It's one of my favorite Italian places. I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite ice cream parlor in Indian Shores is Candy Kitchen.  EVERYTHING is home made except the candy. I don't normally order chocolate sprinkles on my ice cream but theirs seem special. My favorite kind of ice cream is mint chocolate chip. I usually order it in waffle cone. If you like old fashion candies they have everything you'll ever want. The favorite ones to pick up are: Bit of Honey, Mary Janes, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Slow Pokes, Black Cows and Sugar Daddies. If you like newer candies they have those too. I'll post a Candy Kitchen video later this week.

I also tried Rodies for the first time this summer with an out of town guest. I ordered The eggs Benedict Florentine. I usually order this at First Watch, an other one of my favorite restaurants. I thought  first watch was a little bit better because the hollandaise sauce  and  tomatoes seem fresher and firmer at First Watch. However, I will go back to Rodies. It was a good meal and their skillets looked really good.

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming blog entries about my other summer yum news like: Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Middle Ground, and Latitudes. Some where good some were not so good.

Busch Gardens

Montu!?!?!?
Cheetah hunt!?!?!?
Kumba!?!?!?
Scorpion !?!?!?
SheiKra!?!?!?
Gwazi!?!?!?

You've GOT to be kidding, this is a FOOD BLOG!!!!

                                                    How about a Q&A?

Q:     So why is this post called ' Busch Gardens ' ?

A:     They have food at Bush Gardens, why not review it?

On Saturday, we went to Busch Gardens with some of my family. We only got to go on one ride, Montu, then it started storming. Then, we went to the Crown Colony House for lunch. I got the beer battered fish and chips. Surprisingly, it was REALLY GOOD!!!!! It was nice and crispy on the outside, and nice and moist on the inside. The fries were nothing special, just yummy. If you go to Bush gardens, I highly recommend this meal.

We have Fun Passes so went again on Fri. We ate at ' Desert Grill ' in Stanley Villa. I got penne with red sauce. It was average. My dad and I split a side of fries. They were also average. I like how at Desert Grill makes everything so classic. They have mac and cheese, deli sandwiches, cafeteria food. but mostly good and much faster than Crown Colony.

Thumbs Up Bush Gardens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's fun and you won't starve. I can't wait to try their BBQ one day. Just a taste.

Baseball Food

At the Rays game on Thurs. we went to a ball game.
My dad & I split a pretzel. Ball park pretzel are my favorite. Doughy and chewy. You can't go wrong. I get mine with salt and knock it off between pitches.  We also put lots of mustard on it. It's your good old soft pretzel. We also had Cracker Jacks.  They are always the same. Sweet and tasty and theres a prize. What's not to like?

This summer I also had an opportunity to sit in club seats and eat club food. I won the tickets at a banquet. What a surprise! We ate our faces off. My dad and I went with my grandfather (Nano). We had a Seafood medley. It was as good as any restaurant food. It was served in a very light butter sauce. It was cooked perfectly. Even though I mostly keep pescetarian, I felt the need to have a hotdog! It was not an average ball park dog. It was grilled instead of boiled or rotated on the hotdog turner for hours. I had it with ketchup and relish on a toasty bun. Delish!  I can go another year with out another dog.

Conch Republic...again

At my beach sleepover with my BFF, we went to Conch Republic. We both got the Conch Fish & Chips. It was great! The fish was well fried and battered. It was also great fish. Grouper I think. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was PERFECTION!!! The fries were also good. We also had raw oysters, I've loved em' for as long as I can remember. They were  great, they were big and fat and fresh!  My mom had the Grouper Ruben. She said it was awesome. It was a little messy but Rubens usually are. Everyone enjoyed their  food and we all left happy.  Again, nice job Conch Republic!

Indian Shores Coffee

On Friday,  my BFF came and had a sleepover at my Nani & Nano's beach condo on Indian Shores beach (not their normal house ). In the morning, we walked along the beach to Indian Shores Coffee. Advice: In my opinion, they have the best  muffins and breakfast sandwiches on Earth. The muffins are good because they use fresh ingredients and they make them there every morning . They are light and fluffy... and they are also pure yum!
My BFF ordered the blueberry muffin. WARNING: Their muffins are huge!!!!! (3 people can split 1 muffin.) It vas very good. I loved it! You could taste the yummy blueberries! Fresh and sweet, but not too sweet. My BFF's brother got a cinnamon roll, he got 2nds, so I'm assuming it was good...but I can't say much about that because I did not try it. ( if it were yucky, he probably would order something else if he was still hungry. ) Mom & I got a egg & cheese breakfast sandwich. Mom's half was more peppery than normal. Mine was not. It was soooooooooo good!!!!!!!!! I do not have any complaints. The decor is nice, inside  & out. ( We sat outside. ) Mom loves the coffee, and the fresh squeezed tangerine juice is AMAZING!!!!!  It was super- yummy -yummines! 2 Thumbs up!

AARG 7 Castillo's Cafe

Last night I went to Castillo's Cafe.  It was my 4th AARG experience. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Tamara Z again. We had some laughs about the illustrations on the menu. Tamara is good AARG company. My mother and I shared an order of the Crab Enchaldo. We were both excited to try it. It is one of our favorite family dishes and we wanted to see how it stacked up to my great grandfather's recipe. It was pretty good. It was a red sauce, kind of spicy, with chunks of crabmeat in it. I enjoyed it but when my 'papa' makes it he puts whole crabs in it so you get to shell the crabs and eat those too.I think Papa cooks his longer too, his is thicker and a little richer but Castillo's was good. Very good. It was really close in favor, a close second to my great grandpas.   We also shared the black beans and yellow rice. It was very tasty. It was a traditional dish, exactly what I expected and very satisfying. The fried plantains were also very delicious.  The whole meal was yum-mainia!

We also got a Flan Bonus! Awesome dessert on the house for the AARG! Yahoo!
I also got to handout 3 blog cards, like business cards. That was fun too.

Conch Republic over Los Jarrones and Return to the Yummy House

Last month I visited Los Jarrones with AARG. It was my 3rd AARG outing. The company is always great at ARGG. I sat next to John. He was very kind. I ordered the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and the conch as an entree. The food was good. I had some issues with the service. They forgot to cook my food, and that I ordered it. For everyone else, the service was very slow, but I had to wait twice as long! They also got other people's orders incorrect, and it was rather expensive for the cuisine. The atmosphere was nice. I probably will not return. It was not my favorite.  The same week I also visited one of my favorite family-friendly restaurants in Reddington Beach, Conch Republic. This was really good compared to Los Jarrones. I went with Mom and Nani. We shared an order of mussels, ordered as as an appetizer. My entree was grilled shrimps and scallops on a skewer. The service was nice. The ambiance was cool, and we spent less than we did on two people at Los Jarrones--and it was fun!
On a scale from 1-10, with 1 being horrible, 2 being bad, 3 being bad (but not terrible), 4 being poor, 5 being OK, 6 being good, 7 being really nice, 8 being great, 9 being awesome and 10 being unbelievable, I would rate Los Jarrones as a "4," and Conch Republic as an "8.5."

In late May, I returned to one of my favorite restaurants in Tampa, and one of my favorite places to write about: The Yummy House on Hillsborough Avenue. I went for my birthday meal and the owner welcomed us. He knew I had written about his restaurant in my blog before, and he sent us a complimentary appetizer of barbecued pork, which was delicious--I just had to break my "pescatarian thing." He also sent us a really nice dessert which they have recently added to the menu. My entree was scallops with mixed vegetables. As usual, my experience at the Yummy House was fantastic. We all left happy and full. Thank you, Yummy House, once again, I rate you as a "9.75."

Look for my next post about AARG 7 at Castillo's Cafe

Moe's!

A few days ago, I went to Moe's.  ( I could say this any day. I go a lot. ) I love Moes and here is why:

Let's start with a burrito.  I get the Art Vandalay Jr. because I eat fish, other seafood and vegetables but not meat. A Moo Moo Mr. Cow on kids menu is good but too small for me. An Art Vandalay is too big for me, unless I also want lunch for the next day, or I'm going for lunch and I want dinner for that night but The A.V. Jr. is 'just right', like baby bears porridge to Goldlocks.  I like to get: rice, black and pinto beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato and guacamole.  Also I order a cup of quesso to go on my chips and my burrito. The ingredients are always fresh and Moe's is fast. It is a good compromise for fast food. You can't drive through, but that's okay. I like to eat there. the music is good and I like hearing them say "Welcome to Moe's!" If you are on the go, the burritos and rice bowls travel well. The tacos get soggy. Eat those right away.

Chips! Moe's makes their own chips. They are pretty good, really. They seem to always be fresh and never too greasy.  They go great with quesso! And oooooh the quesso! If you hate spicy things, do not get quesso. It is a yummy, med spicy, cheese dip. On the cup it says: by spoon, by chip, by straw, how will you empty this thing?
ANy of these ways work.  I do it 2 ways :   By chip and By burrito! The side of quesso, I use it in a split second it seems, so I get a cup. Now that is just me.

I love Moe's! I'll be back.............. maybe 1 or 2 times this week! That is what I usually end up doing.

Dinner with AARG 2

In February I had dinner with AARG at

La Casona. Sorry for getting back to you so late! It is a Columbian restaurant. There were not a lot of vegetarian options so I ordered a number of side dishes.  I had yucca, plantains , beans and rice.
The yucca was crisp and yellow. It was fried which was nice because I usually have it baked (cuban style). Once it cooled down, it was great! I kind of liked how dry it was! It comes in a small plate and there are 4 in an order.
The plantains were moist and very sweet! They give you about 5. YUM! . It was great!
The beans & rice were red and white, which I was not expecting. I assumed I'd be getting black beans and yellow rice. The portions were huge. The service was great. Other than having a hard time finding NON-meat items, it's a great stop.  It was a great meal!

Dogs/ cooking problem ( begging )

Do you have dogs? I have two, Bongo and Rosie. Are your dogs always under your feet and begging when you cook?
I know how to fix this - under feet - begging - cooking - problem!

Go to the market or a pet store and buy a good, tuff chewing bone. Make sure it is tuff, one time I got this tuff looking chew bone for my dog, Rosie but she ate it in ten minutes!(rawhide twist is good!) Hopefully, this will keep your dog from begging when you cook!

Dinner with AARG!

I recently had dinner with AARG (Amernia Avenue Resturant Gang) at China Yuan Seafood Restaurant. It was fun. We all shared a number of things. I would like to share with you my thoughts on a few of the menu items. Crab Meat and Sweet Corn Soup is the first thing we had that night. I loved it. I could eat it everyday. It was kind of creamy, like a sweet egg drop soup but with savory crab meat mixed into the broth. YUM!

I loved meeting a lot of new people. Tamara sat next to me.She was very friendly. She ordered Snow Pea Tips w/Clear Sauce. They were very pretty and green. They kind of looked like spinach but were even brighter! The taste was a little bit like spinach too but a little fresher and more crisp. They were delicious. I ordered the Sautéed Squid with Mixed Vegetables because they were out of the Pan Fried Mushroom Roll . If it weren't for the kitchen being out of the mushroom roll, I never would have had the chance to try the Squid. Lucky Dining! It came in a really light sauce. It was cooked perfectly.

A lot of things were ordered. These were my favorite dishes. I'd like to go back to this restaurant and I am looking forward to eating with AARG again!

AARG!

Hi! My next blog entry will be about AARG. AARG stands for Armenia Ave. Restaurant Gang! It is a bunch of people that get together regularly to eat at restaurants on Armenia Ave. I went to China Yuan Seafood last night. Can't wait to tell you about it! I'll get back to blogging after my math test tomorrow.

Burgermeister Meisterburger and a trip to The Yummy House!

I recently visited the new burger joint in Carrollwood called Burger 21. I had the black bean burger. I would have ordered a regular beef or turkey burger but I normally eat vegetarian.  They had a wide variety of burgers on their menu. The turkey burger looked very good.   I shared an order of sweet potato fries and had a root beer float.  They also had a serious saucing station. I tried their toasted marshmallow sauce and their apple cider sauce with my sweet potato fries. I did not like them. I loved the sweet potato fries. Their more traditional dipping sauces like the honey mustard and the thai ketchup were pretty good.

My black bean burger was great. I ordered it with just lettuce, tomato and gouda cheese instead of how it is listed on the menu with salsa and other 'stuff'. The gouda cheese is not on the menu. I had to ask for it. It's new to Burger 21. So if you like gouda, they have it in the back! The texture of the burger was just right. It was just moist enough. It wasn't too dry and it wasn't too squishy. The bun was really delicious. I think it was wholewheat: Super-yum-delish!

If you are a fan of root beer floats, you should go there but the delicious burger was the best thing. Thumbs up burger 21. I'll be back!

Last weekend I visited my favorite Chinese restaurant. I see why they call it the Yummy House: it is extremely yummy. I love their sweet and sour fish and their orange chicken is very good as well. You can ask for the sauce on the side when ordering the sweet and sour fish if you are not a fan of too much toppings and over-saucing. Its a whitefish that has been breaded and fried. It is served piping hot. I had to let it sit for a second. that's another reason to get the sauce on the side. So it doesn't sit in the sauce too long while it's cooling getting soggy. This is my favorite thing to get at The Yummy House.

The orange chicken is sweet and savory. It is very tasty. Dining at The  Yummy House is one of those nights when I will eat meat.  It's always worth it.

Also the egg drop soup is something special . It's not your average egg drop soup. It is better than most out there  because of the tiny bits of vegetables inside, especially the baby corn bits. I think they show their talents making this soup. It's great if you have a gigantic family at the Yummy House, because the portions are huge! We never finish anything...leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. BTW: Egg drop soup for breakfast before school is awesome.

No, Koto. YES, Council Oak!

Koto... it was not worth writing about. However, I will report on Council Oak.

At Council Oak I got the cowboy steak. They carve your initials into the bone of the cowboy steak. It was cooked perfectly (medium rare). The presentation was the best I have ever seen. And it was huge! It was a great leftover breakfast. It tasted the same. It was even good cold. I had it with eggs.

My mom got the lamb. IT WAS SO GOOD! I don't really have a lamb or beef preference, but I usually get steak and Council Oak is known for its steaks. Yum.

My dad got the New York strip. IT WAS SOOOOOO GOOD TOO! In one way I liked the cowboy steak better. The flavor of the char came through on the Cowboy steak a little more. In another way I liked the New York Strip better: I liked the more oily taste of the meat.

The restaurant is very fancy! We also ordered 3 appetizers. We got blue point oysters (raw). They were delicious. We got escargot. They were served with a small pastry on top and a mushroom on the bottom. I thought these were extremely yummy. Snails are okay for me! We also got the caesar salad. I don't usually like stuff with dressing but Council Oak did it really nice and I really loved it. I really liked the fresh anchovies too.  If I had to pick a favorite of the three, it would be close between the escargot and the caesar salad. I think I would get the Caesar salad because there are not a lot of places I could go where they would PUT dressing on it , and I would STILL like it.

With our dinner we got 2 sides to share for the family. We got the truffle oil french fries. I really only liked them because it was truffle oil. It was NOT your McDonald's french fry. I think they also had garlic and parmesan cheese on them. Super-yum-yums! We also got the cream spinach. It was perfect. The spinach was fresh and the cream was tasty. The cream spinach went well with the french fries.

We all shared a creme brûlée. How could you go wrong there? It was served with fresh berries. I highly recommend it.

It was the best meal I have ever had! Here are some pics:
